HARRISBURG HISTORY PROJECT
Provided for your information are maps to the first four phases of the Harrisburg History Project. These phases consist of 80 outdoor displays describing historic sites in Harrisburg of local, state, and national importance. The Project will ultimately showcase 120 sites city-wide.
The intent of the Harrisburg History Project, commissioned by Mayor Stephen R. Reed, is to provide local residents and tourists with information about these sites in a way that creates an interesting, visually interactive experience by comparing the “then and now” appearance of Harrisburg. The Project features text and old photographs that are mounted on sidewalk pedestals situated at the same locations from which, in most instances, the original photographs were taken.
The maps provided below illustrate the locations of the pedestals that are currently installed in the Central Business District, Capitol District, Historic Midtown/Old Uptown Districts, Uptown/Riverside District, and the Allison Hill/Eastern Harrisburg Districts
Subsequent phases will be installed in the downtown and other areas of the City as the Project evolves. For more information concerning the Project, please contact the Office of the Mayor at 717.255.3040.
