City 2004 Holiday Parade Winners Announced

Harrisburg’s annual Holiday Parade drew more than 29,000 people to downtown today, kicking off the Thanksgiving-Hanukkah-Christmas-Kwanzaa Season in the midstate. More than 2,500 participants in 100 parade units, including 22 high school bands, marched in the popular Harrisburg holiday tradition.

Churchworld Retailer Opens in Uptown

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today cut the ribbon to dedicate the new ChurchWorld retail store at 609 Division Street in the city’s Uptown. The innovative new retailer features Central Pennsylvania’s largest selection of religious and inspirational cards, books, gift items, apparel, religious software and other faith-based items, as well as copying and printing services.

“Favorite Holiday Stories” Come to Life at the 2004 Harrisburg Holiday Parade; Set for Saturday, Nov. 20 at 10:00 a.m. in Downtown

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today invited residents and visitors from throughout Central Pennsylvania to the City of Harrisburg’s 2004 Holiday Parade, set to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 20 in downtown Harrisburg. The event marks the start of the 2004 Thanksgiving-Hanukkah-Christmas-Kwanzaa-New Year Season in the Greater Harrisburg Region.

City TV Station to Host Live “Thanksgiving Drive” for Area Needy; Donations of Non-Perishable Foods, Winter Coats & Clothing, Hats, Gloves & Scarves Sought

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today invited midstate residents and visitors to the inaugural “Thanksgiving Drive”, being conducted by the city’s cable television station WHBG TV-20 on Friday, November 19, from Noon to 8:00 p.m. at the station’s studios on Court Street in downtown. Featuring live music by local bands, the special fundraiser will be broadcast live by the station and is intended to solicit the public’s donation of non-perishable foods and winter clothing, including coats, hats, gloves and scarves for area needy.

Suspect, on Bail for Robbery, Arrested Again for Bank Robbery; Admits to Two Other Bank Robberies After Capture

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported that the Waypoint Bank at 235 N. 2nd Street downtown was robbed by a lone robber at 10:30 a.m. this morning. Within minutes the suspect was caught and arrested and all the stolen money was recovered.

S. Front Street Sinkhole in Shipoke Repaired; Normal Traffic Patterns Resume

Mayor Stephen R. Reed this afternoon announced that repairs have been completed to a sinkhole underneath the 500 block of S. Front Street in Shipoke, and that normal traffic patterns have resumed. Work had been expected to take up to several weeks, but crews were able to quickly repair the damage and reopen the street.

Basic Steps Daycare Provides Convenient, Affordable Daycare Services for Infants to School-Age Children

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today cut the ribbon to officially open the new Basic Steps Daycare Center at 1223 N. Cameron Street, providing a new and affordable daycare center that is conveniently located along one of the city’s primary traffic corridors and near to many major businesses and employers.
