RIVER TO RISE NEAR OR ABOVE FLOOD STAGE BY THURSDAY EVENING, CITY ISLAND PARKING TO BE RELOCATED THURSDAY TO FRIDAY
Harrisburg, PA Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported that further revised flood forecasts project that the Susquehanna River will reach just slightly below flood stage Thursday night, cresting slowly into Friday and then dropping.
Parking in the surface parking lots on City Island will therefore be banned starting at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday and will not reopen until the river level drops Friday.
River level projections have varied widely in the past 24 hours, with the original prediction showing the river at or above flood stage for Friday night, then being changed late Tuesday night to project reaching flood stage tonight. That has been further revised this morning to now say a Thursday night river level will peak just inches below flood stage. Flood stage in Harrisburg is 17 feet.
Reed noted further rainfall is expected Friday into Saturday and this has not been factored into current river level projections, which are expected to change again when that precipitation is realized.
