MULTIPLE JUVENILES ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH TWO SEPARATE ROBBERIES

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said that five City juveniles have been arrested in connection with two separate robberies that both occurred on Wednesday, March 12, 2008.

Reed said the first robbery occurred at around 3:30 p.m. in the area of N. 3rd and Vaughn Streets. A U.S. Postal Service worker was delivering mail when multiple young males approached and assaulted him. The group of juveniles punched and kicked the mailman and proceeded to steal several pieces of mail from him. They then fled the area.

Reed said the second robbery occurred on the same day around 5:00 p.m. in the 200 block of Edward Street. The victim of that robbery was walking north through the park at Italian Lake when he was approached by four black males. The individuals struck the victim from behind, kicked him and took his black computer bag. They then fled the area, throwing the bag to the ground once realizing there was nothing in it.

The Mayor said the five juveniles involved in the first incident have each been charged with Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. They include three 15-year-old males and two 16-year old males. Reed said four out of those five juveniles were also charged with Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery for the second incident, including two 15-year-old males and two 16-year old males.

Reed said each of the juveniles have been sent to Schaffner Youth Center pending hearings.

The Mayor reminded the public that assaulting a U.S. Postal Worker can be considered a federal offense and federal charges can be brought upon the assailant.
