HARRISBURG POLICE INVESTIGATE OVERNIGHT HOMICIDE
Harrisburg, PA Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said that an overnight shooting in the first block of North 18th Street has left one man dead.
Reed said Harrisburg Police were dispatched to the area around 11:55 p.m. last night after receiving reports that an individual had been shot. Upon arrival, police found that City resident Cory McAlpine, 20, had been shot. McAlpine was pronounced deceased upon arrival by LifeTeam staff shortly after midnight.
Reed said Harrisburg Police have been investigating this homicide throughout the night and will continue to do so today. There are few other details available at this time.
Reed said police believe the suspect is a male with a medium skin tone, however the suspects identification is unknown at this time.
The Mayor also noted that two Harrisburg Police officers were injured in a related automobile accident around 6:05 a.m. He said two officers, both traveling in one unit, were dispatched to the area of the 1700 block of Derry Street to assist detectives who were investigating the homicide. The police unit was involved in a collision and both officers sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Both officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
