ENTERPRISE SPRING EGG HUNT
TO BE HELD SATURDAY, MARCH 15 AT DOWNEY SCHOOL

Harrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reminded residents that the City’s popular Spring Egg Hunt Extravaganza, once again co-sponsored with the City by Enterprise, will be held on Saturday, March 15, at the Downey School located at 1313 Monroe Street. Festivities will run from 9:30 a.m. until noon. The popular family-oriented event features free egg hunts, children’s entertainment, Easter Bunny photos, and other treats for children under the age of ten.

Reed said the spring celebration is one of the largest such events held in the mid-state with over 3,000 normally attending. Six different egg hunts are held throughout the morning for various age groups with over 30,000 plastic eggs and candy treats expected to be distributed. Other highlights of the event are face painting, visits with the mascot character Park C. Squirrel, strolling clowns and special costumed characters, take-home gardens, free treats, the 4-H Goat & Bunny Petting Zoo, free pony rides and the Harrisburg Fire Bureau Smoke House.

The Mayor said participants must register inside the main entrance to the Downey School beginning at 9:30 a.m. The 3-year-old and under egg hunts are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. The 4 to 6-year-old egg hunts are scheduled at 10:20 a.m. and 11:20 a.m. The 7 to 10-year-old egg hunts are scheduled at 10:40 a.m. and 11:40 a.m. Hunts are divided into age-specific groups to ensure that each child has a chance to find eggs. The Mayor reminded participants to enter the school grounds near the Cameron and Herr Streets intersection.

"The City of Harrisburg’s Spring Egg Hunt is one of the largest family-oriented Easter Holiday events in the mid-state," said Mayor Reed. "Thousands of youngsters join in the fun each year, and we expect this year’s egg hunt to be the biggest and best yet. All are invited to this year’s event at the Downey School."

Reed said the City is joined in presenting this year’s event by co-sponsor Enterprise, with additional sponsorship support provided by Geico, The Hershey Company, Sauders Eggs, PennAg Industries Association, Harrisburg Police and Fire Bureaus, HACC Culinary School, Bishop McDevitt High School, the Coca-Cola Company and Harrisburg Parks Partnership.

The Mayor said the Spring Extravaganza is produced by the City’s Department of Parks and Recreation. The Spring Egg Hunt will take place rain or shine. For additional information, please visit www.HarrisburgEvents.com or contact the Department of Parks and Recreation at 717-255-3020.
