TWO ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH YESTERDAY’S HOMICIDE

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported that two suspects involved in yesterday’s homicide have both been arrested and were first taken into custody last night.

Arrested are Marquis Zachary Burnett, 18, and Jaquann Leajon McCready, 18, both of Reading, PA. Both suspects are being charged with one count each of Criminal Homicide and Conspiracy. Burnett is also being charged with one count each of Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Receiving Stolen Property, and Persons Not to Possess a Firearm, while McCready is also being charged with one count each of Receiving Stolen Property and Carrying a Firearm Without a License.

Reed said that both suspects were arrested for their involvement in the homicide of Harold Cuff, 42, which occurred around 11:00 a.m. yesterday in the area of the first block of Summit Street in Allison Hill. After an apparent argument, Cuff was shot one time as the two suspects left the scene. He died at the scene. Early indications that there were more than two suspects involved in the shooting later proved false.

Both Burnett and McCready will be remanded to Dauphin County Prison sometime today, said Reed.
