CITY SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAMS WIND DOWN; OVER 2,000 STUDENTS SERVED BY ARRAY OF PROGRAMS

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported that over 2,025 city school students have participated in a wide array of summer educational programs offered by the Harrisburg School District, ranging from literacy courses and English as a Second Language classes to graduation credit courses, PreK Summer School and high school preparatory work.

WADDELL & REED USO TOUR TRUCK VISITS HARRISBURG CITY ISLAND

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today kicked-off the Waddell & Reed USO Tour stop at Harrisburg City Island, where participants could provide care packages to U.S. troops overseas as part of the United Service Organization’s Operation USO Care Package program. Harrisburg was one of the 70 communities chosen by Waddell & Reed Financial Services for its nationwide USO tour.

CITY ISLAND BEACH REOPENS; E-COLI READINGS IN RIVER REGISTER SAFE LEVELS

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said Escherichia Coli, or E-Coli, bacteria readings in the Susquehanna River at the City Island Beach have fallen well within safe levels. Water samples taken on July 10th and 11th, 2007, which came back today, showed a quality level of less than ten colonies per 100 millimeters. Thus, City Island Beach is now reopened immediately to the public.

RIVER E-COLI LEVELS AGAIN CLOSE CITY ISLAND BEACH

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said the City Island Beach is once again closed to the public due to elevated E-coli levels. Results of the city’s latest water quality tests, taken on Thursday and Friday, July 5 and 6, 2007, show that the levels have again risen above the state’s maximum quality level of 235 colonies per 100 milliliters, to over 1,000 colonies.

MAYOR REED CUTS RIBBON TO WELCOME CORPORATE UNIVERSITY XCHANGE (CUX) TO HARRISBURG

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today cut the ribbon to welcome Corporate University Xchange (CUX) to the City of Harrisburg. The ribbon-cutting occurred at Corporate University Xchange’s new headquarters, located in Suite 201 at the Harrisburg Transportation Center, 415 Market Street.

Mayor Stephen R. Reed and the Strawberry Square Development Corporation announced today the move of Probity Medical Transcription Company into the City and the opening of the SMART Business Advisory and Consulting firm in Strawberry Square.
