CITY SEMINAR TO FOCUS ON SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & EXPANSIONSmall business owners and other entrepreneurs interested in starting up a business will greatly benefit from a special business seminar being conducted today at the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. City Government Center, said Mayor Stephen R. Reed, whose Office of Economic Development and Special Projects is conducting the unique event. “Today’s session is vitally important for city business owners and those planning to start up a business in the city,” said the Mayor. “From a wide array of potential funding sources to such myriad details as planning and permitting, a wealth of information will be provided to those attending.” Reed said that special topics for the day will include: Financing for Your Business; Area Resources for Business Growth; Business Assistance at Partner Agencies and Licenses, Permits and Certifications. Joining the Mayor’s Office and other city government agencies in presenting today’s seminar are The Capital Region Economic Development Corporation/Murata Business Center, the Dauphin County Office of Community and Economic Development, Harristown Development Corporation, Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District, African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Pa, HACC Business Start-up Center and the Kutztown University Small Business Development Center. Reed said the session will also feature in-depth information on financing and lending, with Mid-Penn Bank, PNC Bank, and the new Pennsylvania State Bank, who recently opened their first city-based branch office, all participating. Local developers and successful new business owners will also be on hand to discuss their experiences, with Powers & Associates, Cameron Real Estate,LLC, Young and Associates and WCI Partners providing details on project development. Small business owners Julie Ward, of Basic Steps Day Care, Howard Henry from Howard Tire and Automotive Service and Sun Yi Chon, of Town News will also be speaking on their small business start-up experiences.
