THE OFFICE OF MAYOR STEPHEN R. REED |
FOR IMMEDIATE USE |
MARKET PLACE NEIGHBORHOOD DOUBLING IN SIZE WITH NEW HOMES AND MORE PLANNEDMayor Stephen R. Reed today dedicated the first of what will be 71 new townhomes in the Market Place neighborhood, a project that, when completed, will more than double the number of the neighborhood’s residential structures. The first constructed homes were achieved by a city-initiated housing development project in the late 1990’s, involving the reuse of vacant lots and demolition of blighted buildings. This latest wave of further new construction considerably adds to the revitalization work, representing over $8 million in new construction, streetscape and infrastructure improvements. Known as the Market Place Townhomes, the latest new homes are located near the intersection of North Sixth and Reily Streets, within easy walking distance of the downtown, Capitol Complex, historic Broad Street Market and the major expansion of the HACC Midtown Campus. Reed said the first phase of new construction involves the construction of 17 new homes, eight of which are now completed and several of which are now occupied by new homeowners. Nine additional units are currently under construction in the area bounded by N. 5th, N. 6th, Reily and Calder Streets. The Mayor said the new single-family 1280 sq. ft. townhomes are very affordably priced with two bedrooms, 2 ½ baths, full basements, off-street parking and brick and vinyl exteriors. A full range of amenities and upgrades are also available depending upon the buyer’s preferences. Prices state at $129,900. Five units have already been sold or are under contract. “The Marketplace Townhomes have been very popular since the first phase of units were constructed in the late 1990’s,” said Mayor Reed. “They offer modern conveniences at a very affordable price and are conveniently located near shopping, work and recreational areas that are easily accessed without having to use a vehicle.” The mayor said the city did the initial planning work to spawn the project, including assembling numerous land parcels and assembling them into larger tracts to allow new development. Following the issuance of city drafted Request for Proposals, S&A Homes, one of the largest residential developers in Central Pennsylvania, was selected to be developer and builder. Brian Noll, Divisional Sales and Marketing Manager for S&A Homes, said “watching the project develop from a vacant lot to beautiful townhomes has been an amazing transformation. The homes have great curb appeal and offer customers value and quality construction in the heart of the city.” Reed said interested potential homebuyers can stop by the Marketplace Townhomes Model Home in the 1400 block of N. 6th Street, or call Sales Associate Angela Kessler at (717) 238.6875, or angela.kessler@sandahomes.com for more information. S&A Homes is also on the web at www.sahomebuilder.com. |
