EXCITING NEW ICE CREAM PARLOR OPENS DOWNTOWN

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced the opening of a new ice cream parlor in the city’s downtown, offering a full array of Hershey’s hand-dipped ice cream, Italian ice, soft serve ice cream, sundaes, milk shakes, ice cream sodas, ice cream cones and specialty desserts such as brownies, fruit cobblers and strawberry shortcake ala mode.

Located next to the Tom Sawyer Diner on North Second Street, the new business now operates 11 am to 11pm, seven days a week during the warmer weather months. The facility is a unique historic preservation project, too. When the former Donaldson office building was torn down in the 1970’s, the lobby and first floor stairwell were kept intact and left in place, including the grand entranceway. All this has been restored and underscores the adaptive reuse of older structures in unique ways, the Mayor said. The building is 9 feet wide by 20 feet deep.

Soon, the new establishment, called Chilly Willy’s, will also begin offering a full range of beverages and, with a state liquor license, will serve Irish coffees, aperitifs and crème de menthe parfaits as after-dinner treats for patrons of all nearby restaurants.

Reed said it is the first full ice cream parlor in the downtown in many years.

The business is owned by The Tom Sawyer Diner and operated by Kamionka Entertainment Group. The project cost is the equivalent of 20,000 soft serve ice cream cones or 10,000 banana splits. Chilly Willy says: “An Ice Cream a Day, Keeps the Doctor Away”.
