RESCUE TASK FORCE DISPATCHED TO OTHER PARTS OF STATE; CITY ISLAND NOW CLOSED DUE TO FLOOD WATERSMayor Stephen R. Reed tonight reported that Harrisburg City Island is now being inundated by flood water and is closed. Meanwhile the city, which is the statewide administrator of Task Forces One and Two, has dispatched at the direction of the Pennsylvania Emergency Manage-ment Agency, 38 personnel to Great Bend in Susquehanna County, where major flooding has occurred and where search and rescue operations of inundated structures will begin at daybreak in search of survivors or casualties. Two other teams have now been dispatched to Berks and Columbia Counties. Another two teams remain in position for immediate dispatch in Harrisburg at the city’s Special Operations Center. In Susquehanna County, in addition to the Pennsylvania Task Force One contingent, the entire Region III rescue task force has been mobilized in that part of the state to provide support and supplemental personnel in their search and rescue work in Great Band. |
