”M&T SATURDAYS” CONCERT SERIES AND NEW “MEDITERRANEAN SUNSET” FILM & INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL SERIES SET TO BEGIN

Two major downtown entertainment series were announced today by Mayor Stephen R. Reed and officials from the Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District Authority(HDIDA), and Harristown Development Corporation and International Place, with live music, films, food and other entertainment all featured. All of the events are free and both visitors and residents are invited.

New to downtown’s summer events schedule this year will be the “Mediterranean Sunset” Film and International Entertainment Series, said the Mayor. The four-part festival showcases the new International Place and Bricco Restaurant at S. 3rd and Chestnut Streets, with four separate Thursday events focusing upon nations bordering the Mediterranean. In addition to ethnic foods, dance, and other entertainment, a free outdoor movie will be shown reflective of the nation being featured that month.

This summer’s inaugural “Mediterranean Sunset Series” schedule includes Thursday June 8 - Spain, with “The Legend of Zorro”; Thursday July 13 – France, with “Chocolat”; Thursday August 17 – Greece, with- “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”; and Thursday, September 23 – Italy, with “Moonstruck”. All of the films are free and all begin at 7:00 p.m. in the parking lot at S. 3rd and Chestnut Streets.

Also announced today by the Mayor are the 3rd Annual M&T Saturdays Summer Celebrations, held on Market Square, which feature live musical entertainment, food, games and other activities. New this year will be food eating contests, interactive displays such as bull-riding, human jousting, bouncy boxing and more.

Three separate events are slated for this year, with the first set for Saturday, June 24, featuring Aerosmith-tribute band Draw The Line, and special guests Shoot The Moon. Slated for July 22 will be Dave Matthews- tribute band “One Sweet World plus special guests The Mint; and on August 19, UF, a U2-tribute band with special guests Holis will entertain. All of the free performances run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on historic Market Square.

“These are terrific free festivals and special events to which all are invited,” said Mayor Reed. “From top name musical entertainment to international foods, the M&T Saturday Series and the Mediterranean Sunset Series both offer something for every interest and taste, and they are all free and open to the public.”

Reed said both entertainment series are being sponsored and produced by the Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District Authority and the City of Harrisburg, who are joined for the new Mediterranean Sunset Series by cosponsors Harristown Development Corporation, the Harrisburg Young Professionals, Zero Gravity Marketing and Advertising, International Place – Home of International House, Bricco Restaurant, Ciao! and Olewines Meat and Cheese Shop.

Presenting the 3rd Annual M&T Saturdays Series are title sponsor M& T Bank, Max’s Italian Restaurant, ABC 27, 105.7 The X, Mix106.7, Red 102.3, the BurgBlurb.com, the Harrisburg Hilton and Towers, the Crowne Plaza and the Harrisburg Parking Authority.

Reed said the first block of N. 2nd Street, or North Market Square, will be closed to traffic for each of the M&T Saturday events, with traffic detoured after Noon each event day. The first block of S. 3rd Street will also close to traffic after evening rush hour for each of the Thursday evening Mediterranean Sunset Series events.
