FLOODWATERS RECEDE; SHIPOKE CLEAN-UP COMPLETED AND EFFORTS NOW UNDERWAY ON CITY ISLAND

Mayor Stephen R. Reed this afternoon reported that clean-up efforts in Shipoke were completed earlier this morning and intensive clean-up work is now underway on City Island. The river’s earlier than expected drop below the 17 ft. flood stage this morning allowed city crews to begin restoration work early this morning, and significant progress is being made.

Mayor Stephen R. Reed reported this afternoon that the strong storm cells that passed over the city, dumping much rain in a short time, has caused extensive street flooding in multiple areas – that will take hours to dissipate before streets can be reopened.

HARRISBURG UNIVERSITY ACHIEVES CANDIDATE FOR ACCREDITATION STATUS IN FIRST YEAR OF OPERATION

Mayor Stephen R. Reed and officials of The Harrisburg University of Science and Technology announced today that the Middle States Commission, the entity that rules on matters of college and university accreditation, has approved The Harrisburg University as a candidate for accreditation in the University’s first year of operation.  Read More…

STATE FIRE COMMISSIONER DONATES SMOKE DETECTORS TO CITY FOR FREE HOME INSTALLATIONS

City residents who are unable to buy home smoke detectors or are unable to do the installation work by themselves can now receive free detectors and installation from the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire, thanks to a sizable donation of the life-saving devices by the Office of PA State Fire Commissioner Edward Mann, Mayor Stephen R. Reed announced today.

BEACH BOYS TO HEADLINE 2006 AMERICAN MUSICFEST LINE-UP

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that the Beach Boys will perform in a free, live concert in Riverfront Park as part of the city’s upcoming American MusicFest held over the July 4th Holiday weekend. The Beach Boys headline more than 250 hours of free, live music by nearly 60 different musical and other acts. Over 300 local, regional and national entertainers will be presented by the city during the extended, four-day festival, which begins on Saturday, July 1, and concludes with the region’s largest holiday fireworks display, set for 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4.

”M&T SATURDAYS” CONCERT SERIES AND NEW “MEDITERRANEAN SUNSET” FILM & INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL SERIES SET TO BEGIN

Two major downtown entertainment series were announced today by Mayor Stephen R. Reed and officials from the Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District Authority(HDIDA), and Harristown Development Corporation and International Place, with live music, films, food and other entertainment all featured. All of the events are free and both visitors and residents are invited.
