THE OFFICE OF MAYOR STEPHEN R. REED |
FOR IMMEDIATE USE |
SHOOTER SOUGHT IN WEEKEND KILLING; SEPARATE SUSPECTS SOUGHT IN SEPARATE FRIDAY KIDNAPPING CASE & POSSIBLE RAPE THIS MORNINGMayor Stephen R. Reed today said city police are searching for a 24-year old Swatara Township man in connection with the weekend shooting of five persons, one of whom died later at Hershey Medical Center. Police are also seeking two separate suspects in a weekend kidnapping case and a separate possible rape that occurred overnight. Reed said police have identified 24-year old Kevin W. Murden, of the 5100 block of Erie Road in Swatara Township, as one of at least two shooters in a melee early Saturday morning outside Roebuck’s Bar that left 21-year old Joseph Seegers dead of a gunshot wound, and injured four others from gunfire. A fifth woman was also injured during the fight from punches. Murden is to be considered armed and dangerous and anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is urged to call city police at (717) 255.3131. In a separate weekend case, the Mayor said police are seeking 51-year old Lewis Duffy, of the 300 block of S.14th Street, following his kidnapping of his former paramour just before 5 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Duffy grabbed the woman’s arm while in the 900 block of N. 18th Street and pulled her into his vehicle. He then drove at a high rate of speed out of the city and south on Interstate 81, telling her they were headed for Atlanta, Georgia where he intended to kill himself over his mother’s grave. The 42-year old victim, a resident of the 2000 block of Market Street, tried to calm the suspect and asked him to stop to get her something to eat. Duffy pulled into a McDonald’s drive-thru off of Exit 20 and while he was paying for the food the victim jumped out of the vehicle and ran inside the restaurant. Duffy followed the victim inside and tried to pull her outside but restaurant staff intervened and called police. The victim was uninjured and Duffy now faces Kidnapping, Assault and Terroristic Threats charges. Duffy is believed to be in possession of several firearms and should be considered armed and dangerous. The Mayor said city police are also investigating a possible sexual assault that occurred sometime last night near S. 10th and Mulberry Streets. A witness reported seeing a woman in distress this morning underneath the Mulberry Street Bridge, and responding units found a badly beaten 36-year old victim, who reported she had been sexually assaulted in an incident that occurred sometime after 7 p.m. on Sunday evening. She was taken to Harrisburg Hospital where she is now being treated. Investigators have little to go on because they have been unable to interview the woman at this hour. The victim, a city resident, said she was assaulted by a light-skinned black male, about 30 years of age. The Mayor said city police have also arrested several persons in connection with separate criminal incidents over the past few weeks. Two persons have been charged and two other juveniles are being sought for a September 13, 2006 robbery of a 21-year old Elizabethtown woman whose vehicle had broken down in South Harrisburg. The victim was waiting for help in her stalled car when a young woman and man approached either side of the vehicle. The woman distracted the victim and the male grabbed her purse and ran. A short time later two young males and a woman attempted to use the woman’s stolen credit cards to buy sneakers at the Harrisburg Mall. Township police were notified of the attempts and quickly notified city police. Now charged with one count of Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery and Corruption of Minors is 23-year old Patricia Green, of Hall Manor. Also charged is a 16-year old female, of the 1200 block of Oyler Road, who is charged with one count each of Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. A 16-year old male juvenile involved in the robbery has also been identified, though charges have yet to be filed against him. Police are looking for at least one additional juvenile male suspect believed involved, though he has yet to be identified. The victim was not injured during the robbery. Reed said city police have also arrested several persons for an October 31, 2006 robbery of an 18-year old city man in the 1600 block of Zarker Street, who was robbed at gunpoint of earrings and a cellphone in the 10 p.m. incident. Now charged with one count each of Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Simple Assault, Carrying a Firearm without a License is 28-year old Robert Warren, of the 1800 block of Susquehanna Street, and 19-year old David Jackson, of the 1400 block of Calder Street. Police are also looking for at least one additional male suspect and a female accomplice. |
