M&T BANK PARTNERS WITH CITY OF HARRISBURG FOR ITS FIFTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR TO PRESENT NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATIONMayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that M&T Bank would once again partner with the city in presenting the popular M&T Bank New Year’s Eve Celebration. This marks the fifth consecutive year of a partnership between The City of Harrisburg and M&T Bank. The midstate’s most popular New Year’s Eve Celebration includes live entertainment, fireworks and children’s entertainment. Reed said the City of Harrisburg, which organizes and conducts the annual event, is once again pleased to have M&T Bank, which employs more than 2,650 Pennsylvanians and serves central and southern Pennsylvania customers at more than 100 branches, as the title sponsor for this year’s event. “In these times of financial uncertainty for many regional events, the ability of the City of Harrisburg to be able to underwrite events for current and future years shows the promotional and community value of these events to corporate America,” Reed said. “The commitment by M&T Bank illustrates their commitment to the Capital Region, and the quality of life that we provide.” Corporate sponsorships currently fund most of the City’s annual special events. "M&T Bank is proud to partner with the City of Harrisburg again to stage what has quickly become know as one of Pennsylvania's best community New Year's Eve Celebrations. As a bank, we understand how significant downtown Harrisburg is to our region's economy and we've tried to focus a lot of our sponsorships around events that draw people to downtown," said Michael S. Murchie, regional president of M&T Bank. Activities and music will take place on Market Square, in the atrium of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. City Government Center, and at numerous other downtown locations. The popular M&T Bank Children’s Theater will once again be located in the lobby of the city government center. “Make plans to bring the whole family,” said the Mayor, “as activities are geared to both youngsters and adults.” The free event, which celebrates the end of 2006 and the start of 2007, features live music, food, children’s entertainment and a wide array of other events and activities, all of which conclude at midnight with the descent of a giant, lighted strawberry and a finale fireworks show in Market Square.
