MINISTRY - $100 PER WEAPON OFFERED IN EFFORT TO REDUCE GUN

State Representative Ron Buxton(103rd), Mayor Stephen R. and Reclaim The Streets Ministries President William Jones, Jr., today reminded city residents that a gun buy-back program will begin this Saturday, November 18, at the Reclaim The Streets Ministry at N. 18th and State Streets. Persons turning in working firearms will receive a $100 Visa cash card which is redeemable at virtually any location.

POLICE INVESTIGATE BABY INJURY AND SEPARATE POSSIBLE DRUG OVERDOSE DEATH; SUSPECTS ALSO SOUGHT IN SUNDAY ROBBERY THAT LEFT VICTIM SERIOUSLY INJURED

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said city police are investigating a suspicious death that occurred on Monday involving a possible drug overdose, and are also looking into a case involving an 11-month old child in critical condition at Hershey Medical Center. Police are also looking for two suspects in the robbery of a man in the Uptown on Sunday evening.

SHOOTER SOUGHT IN WEEKEND KILLING; SEPARATE SUSPECTS SOUGHT IN SEPARATE FRIDAY KIDNAPPING CASE & POSSIBLE RAPE THIS MORNING

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said city police are searching for a 24-year old Swatara Township man in connection with the weekend shooting of five persons, one of whom died later at Hershey Medical Center. Police are also seeking two separate suspects in a weekend kidnapping case and a separate possible rape that occurred overnight.

CITY HOLIDAY PARADE KICKS-OFF THE REGION’S HOLIDAY SEASON – SATURDAY NOVEMBER 18 AT 10:00 A.M.

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today invited residents and visitors from throughout the midstate to the City of Harrisburg’s 2006 Holiday Parade, set to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2006, in downtown. The popular annual holiday tradition kicks-off the Hanukkah-Christmas-Kwanzaa-New Year’s Eve Season for the Greater Harrisburg Region and is one of the largest of any holiday parades in the region throughout the year.

1 KILLED, 5 INJURED IN OVERNIGHT SHOOTING AT ROEBUCK’S BAR

Mayor Stephen R. Reed this afternoon reported that one person is dead and five others, including four wounded by gunfire, were injured during an early morning shooting in front of Roebuck’s Bar near N. 6th and Harris Streets. Police are currently looking for at least one suspect.

100 BLOCK OF CHESTNUT ST. TO CLOSE FOR HELICOPTER REPAIR ON HBG. HOSP

Mayor Stephen R. Reed this afternoon said that the 100 block of Chestnut Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 2 p.m. this afternoon to allow for the construction of a crane involved in work on a helicopter stuck atop Harrisburg Hospital.

CITY FLEET BEGINS USING BIOFUELS; REDUCING COSTS, POLLUTION AND FOREIGN FUEL NEEDS

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that the City of Harrisburg has begun using biodiesel fuel in its fleet of diesel-run vehicles. The new fuel mixture will save money for the city on fuel purchases and provides a cleaner, non-foreign fuel supply source that is grown locally.

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that city police have charged Cassandra S. Vaden in the April 24, 2006 suspicious death of 4 yr. old Breonna Canales at the M.W. Smith Homes. Police have also arrested four other persons following separate criminal incidents in the city over the weekend.

15-YR. OLD ARRESTED FOR THURSDAY CARJACKING

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that city police have arrested a 15-year old juvenile for a carjacking that occurred yesterday afternoon in the Uptown area. A suspect has also been arrested for an October 16 mugging that occurred on South Allison Hill.

HARRISBURG RECEIVES TOP RATING IN STATE FOR REDUCING FLOOD RISKS; FLOOD INSURANCE PREMIUMS REDUCED BY 20% FOR CITIZENS, BUSINESSES

Citizens and businesses who own property in the City of Harrisburg can now receive a 20% reduction in flood insurance premium costs as a result of the fourth -- and latest – upgrade in the city’s rating under the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s flood insurance program.
