15-YR. OLD ARRESTED FOR THURSDAY CARJACKINGMayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that city police have arrested a 15-year old juvenile for a carjacking that occurred yesterday afternoon in the Uptown area. A suspect has also been arrested for an October 16 mugging that occurred on South Allison Hill. Reed said city police have now charged a 15-year old resident of the 3200 block of N. 6th Street for his role in stealing a car at gunpoint from a 19-year old resident of the 3200 block of N. 3rd Street yesterday afternoon. The victim first encountered the suspect just after Midnight Thursday morning when he returned home and parked his vehicle. The victim saw the suspect loitering around with a bandana over his face. Believing he was about to be robbed, the victim ran inside his house, dropping his cellphone in the process. The juvenile suspect ran after him but was unable to reach him before the victim safely entered his front door. The suspect then picked up the phone and ran off. About 12 hours later, the victim exited his home and entered his parked vehicle, when he was suddenly accosted again by the same suspect, this time pointing what was believed to be a silver handgun at him. The suspect told the victim to leave the keys and exit the vehicle, to which he complied. The suspect then drove off. Just before 4 p.m. yesterday afternoon a patrol officer spotted the stolen vehicle, being driven by the suspect and who was accompanied by his juvenile girlfriend. The suspect attempted to flee on foot from police but was captured after a brief chase. When police returned to the vehicle the girlfriend had fled and the vehicle had rolled into a marked police unit. The juvenile now faces single counts each of Robbery, Theft by Unlawful Taking, Driving without a License, Causing an Accident, Auto Theft and Escape. The victim in the crime was uninjured in either of the two incidents. City police have also arrested 28-year old Darnell L. Doss, of the first block of S. 17th Street, for his part in the October 16th robbery of a 24-year old Swatara Street man who had just withdrawn cash from an ATM. Doss and an accomplice confronted the victim as he was entering his parked vehicle, pointing a gun at him and demanding his cash. The victim complied and the pair fled on foot. Responding officers observed the two suspects and after a brief chase was able to take Doss into custody though his partner got away. Doss is now charged with two counts of Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. The accomplice, identified only as a black male nicknamed “T-Boss” or T-Bone”, remains at large. The weapon used in the robbery has not been recovered. |
