THE OFFICE OF MAYOR STEPHEN R. REED |
FOR IMMEDIATE USE |
SUSPECT ARRESTED IN OVERNIGHT SHOOTING DEATH OF UPTOWN WOMAN; SUSPECT SOUGHT IN UNRELATED SHOOTING INCIDENT ON ALLISON HILLMayor Stephen R. Reed this afternoon announced that city police have arrested one man on charges of Criminal Homicide in connection with the shooting death of a 26-year old Uptown woman last night, and officers are looking for a suspect in a separate shooting incident on Allison Hill that left a man hospitalized. Reed said city police have arrested 27-year old Robert Hosby, of the 2400 block of Reel Street, on a single count of homicide stemming from the 2:30 a.m. shooting death of 26-year old Tara Layton, of the 2100 block of Susquehanna Street. Hosby and another female were involved in a verbal argument with Layton and a relative when he pulled out a 40. cal handgun and shot her once in the chest. Layton died immediately. The Mayor said the incident remains under investigation and additional arrests are likely. Police believe the shooting may have been in retaliation for a relative of Layton’s who provided information to the police in the Daeshaun Auter homicide shooting last month, which led to the arrest of Hosby’s brother Larry on murder charges in that case. In an unrelated shooting incident last night, Mayor Reed said city police are looking for a suspect in the 4 a.m. shooting of 24-year old Matthew L. Dyson, of the 1700 block of Carnation Street. A 17-year old male juvenile was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, but no charges have been filed against him. Reed said police on patrol near 18th and Carnation Streets heard gunshots shortly before 4 a.m., and upon searching the area saw three black males running from the area. One of the three, the 17-year old juvenile, was captured by police while the other two escaped. A few minutes later police were called to a residence in the 1700 block of Carnation Street, where Dyson was found collapsed on the floor, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the back. Dyson was taken to a local hospital though his injury is not considered life-threatening. Dyson told police he had just parked and was exiting his vehicle when he felt something in his back, and made it inside his home before collapsing. Dyson initially gave police a false name as a warrant is outstanding for his arrest on unrelated charges. Officers also found a handgun inside his parked vehicle. Dyson will be held on the outstanding warrant following his release from the hospital, and will likely face an additional weapons charge. He could not provide any information on who shot him and the incident remains under investigation. City police are also looking for suspects or information about a tire-slashing spree that occurred on Allison Hill sometime last evening or overnight. Two or more tires on at least ten different vehicles parked on Holly, Zarker, Kensington, S. 19th and Haehnlen Streets, and Hillside Road, were slashed sometime between 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon and 9 a.m. this morning. One witness reported seeing a group of three young Hispanic males, about 15 to 16 years of age, and all wearing dark clothing. The witness gave chase but lost them after a short pursuit. Reed said anyone with information about any of the cases are urged to call city police at (717) 255.3131. |
