THE OFFICE OF MAYOR STEPHEN R. REED |
FOR IMMEDIATE USE |
NEW JAZZ LOUNGE OPENS AT 4TH & WALNUT STREETS IN DOWNTOWNMayor Stephen R. Reed today cut the ribbon to open the new “405 Jazz on Walnut” nightspot, where live jazz music and a more mature ambience will be offered for the discerning Harrisburg visitor. The new Mediterranean-styled martini bar adjoins the popular fine dining restaurant Sophia’s Seafood Restaurant, with plenty of convenient on-street parking located nearby. Reed said the new “405 Jazz on Walnut” is owned and operated by successful restaurateur Adriano Isernia, who opened the distinctive Sophia’s culinary attraction in 2004. The new lounge will feature an all jazz music format with live jazz musicians and bands on Fridays and Saturdays. The entertainment attraction occupies 800 sq. ft. of space and features a full bar, with the adjoining Sophia’s menu selections also available. Isernia’s successful acquisition of a liquor license for the new lounge also means that Sophia’s, long a BYOB-only restaurant, can now offer a full selection of adult beverages for diners. Financing for the new full-service complex included a city Business Revolving Loan Fund allocation of $80,000, a $35,000 loan from the Community First Fund, and private investment. 14 full and part time jobs are created by the two businesses. “We are very excited about the new “405 Jazz on Walnut,” said the Mayor, “and believe it offers an appealing alternative for a more mature and discerning downtown nighttime audience. It has plenty of on-street parking surrounding it, which is always free at night, and it is conveniently located near the Forum Building, the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, the State Capitol Complex, and the Strawberry Square complex, as well as several parking garages. “Located midway between both, the new “405 Jazz on Walnut” will quickly become a favored stopover point for visitors attending state or other functions at the nearby Forum Building or Sunoco Theater,” Reed noted. Featured live artists appearing during this weekend’s grand opening festivities include WNNK 104, the 92.7 Smooth Jazz Party, X-Factor(Contemporary Jazz), Matrix(Latin Jazz), and The Reese Project(Celtic Jazz). The Mayor said “405 Jazz on Walnut” will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to Midnight, with a lunch menu available weekdays and a unique appetizer menu at night. Sophia’s Seafood Restaurant next door will have new operating hours of 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and will no longer be open for lunch. Sophia’s Seafood Restaurant and “405 Jazz on Walnut” are located at 403-405 Walnut Street in downtown, near the intersection of N. 4th and Walnut Street. |
