WEEKEND ROBBERIES PROBED AS OTHER SUSPECTS ARE CHARGED IN ARRAY OF INCIDENTS DATING TO 2005

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said city police have arrested 6 suspects in connection with a range of violent and drug crimes dating back to 2005, and are also investigating a bank robbery and two separate muggings that occurred in the city over the weekend.

MAYOR OBSERVES NATIONAL LEAD POISONING PREVENTION WEEK WITH CHILDREN’S EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS; OVER 500 HOMES CLEARED OF HAZARDS

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that more than 500 homes have now been renovated or made “lead safe” as part of Harrisburg’s award winning lead paint poisoning prevention program. This week marks the city’s annual observances of Lead Paint Hazard Week, with a special youth education program at the Camp Curtin Elementary School.

WOMEN CHARGED IN THEFT OF GUN THAT KILLED IVY CHAMBERS; TWO HOME INVADERS ALSO SEPARATELY CHARGED

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that city police have charged two women in the theft of the handgun used in the Ivy Chambers accidental shooting, and separately are charging two men for an October 2 home invasion. Arrests have also been made in separate theft and drug dealing incidents, and police are looking for another man in a Saturday morning shooting incident.

CITY TRICK OR TREAT NIGHT SET FOR THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26, FROM 6-8 P.M.

Mayor Stephen R. Reed reminds city residents that Trick or Treat Night in Harrisburg and most of Dauphin County’s other municipalities will be held on Thursday, October 26, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The date and time for the fun-filled evening is annually set by the Dauphin County Chiefs of Police Association.

SUSPECT ARRESTED IN OVERNIGHT KIDNAPPING, ASSAULT CASE; SCHOOL BUS DRIVER TO BE CITED FOR CRASH IN HALL MANOR THIS MORNING

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported that city police have arrested 27-year old Lonnie E. Peterson on charges of Kidnapping, Robbery and Assault in connection with an incident at his home in the 1600 block of Wayne Street yesterday. Separately, police have also cited a school bus driver following an accident this morning in Hall Manor that resulted in seven students being taken to local hospitals for minor injuries.

SUSPECTS SOUGHT IN SEPARATE ROBBERIES; 9 OTHERS ARRESTED IN ROBBERY, THEFT, GUN AND DRUG CRIMES

Reed today said city police continue to search for suspects wanted in connection with the robbery of the Belco Community Credit Union on Monday morning, and for the October 6 robbery of the Family Dollar Store. 9 suspects have also been arrested in connection with separate robbery, theft, shooting and drug-related crimes in the city over the past week.

TOWER OF PUMPKINS TO LIGHT UP DOWNTOWN FOR INAUGURAL PUMPKINFEST

Reed, the Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District(HDID) and the Harristown Development Corporation today announced plans for the first-ever “PumpkinFest” in downtown Harrisburg, a three-day display of a tower of carved pumpkins that will be erected in front of the Harrisburg Hilton and Towers, beginning this Thursday, October 19.

BANK ROBBERY SUSPECT SOUGHT

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said city police are searching for a suspect in an early morning robbery of the Belco Community Credit Union branch office in Harrisburg Hospital. No one was injured and the robber fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

CITY TO PARTICIPATE IN REGION-WIDE EMERGENCY PLANNING DRILL ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that the City of Harrisburg’s will be participating in “Exercise Wide Vigilance,” a major emergency planning drill being conducted this Saturday, October 14, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The drill will involve over 2,200 emergency response personnel and 700 “victims” of multiple undisclosed terrorist attacks.

Reed today announced that city police have arrested two men in connection with an armed robbery that occurred early this morning in the 300 block of Hummel Street, as well as a suspect in a separate vandalism incident. Police are also searching for a female assault suspect who roughed up a woman riding on a city bus yesterday.
