ARRESTS MADE IN HOME INVASION, ROBBERY ATTEMPT AT JAMROCK CLUB

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said city police made two arrests in three separate criminal incidents over the past 24 hours, including two home invasion incidents and a separate robbery attempt at the Jamrock Nightclub on S. Cameron Street.

Reed said 20-year old Israel Gonzalez, of MW Smith Homes, has been charged with Robbery, Aggravated Assault and various firearms violations for his attempted robbery of a couple at the Jamrock Nightclub at 150 S. Cameron Street. Gonzalez attempted to rob at gunpoint a 37-year old man and his 33-year old girlfriend just after 2:30 a.m. A police officer was nearby in his marked unit when he heard a single gunshot fired from the area of the Jamrock parking lot. Arriving within seconds, the officer saw the victim and Gonzalez struggling on the ground and ordered them to lie still. Gonzalez got up and attempted to flee, but was tackled by a civilian who was riding along with the police officer and taken into custody. No one was injured in the incident.

The Mayor said police also continue to investigate two alleged home invasion robberies that occurred over night.

In the first incident, two masked black males entered a home in the 1800 block of Boas Street just after Midnight Monday morning, and ordered the 41-year old male occupant to turn over his money. After a brief struggle with one of the suspects, the victim complied. The suspects fired at least one shot inside the house, which lodged in a first floor ceiling. The victims two sons, aged 15 and 9, were asleep in a third floor bedroom throughout the incident. No one was injured in the attack. The assailants were described only as two black males wearing bandanas over their faces.

In the second incident, police have arrested 25-year old Barron Walker, of the 1500 block of Berryhill Street, in connection with the 2 a.m. home invasion of a residence in the 200 block of Hummel Street. Walker and an unidentified accomplice entered the home looking for money and drugs. A struggle ensued between Walker and a 49-year old male victim and a 43-year old female victim, with Walker shooting the male victim in the leg. The male victim then picked up an axe laying nearby and struck Walker in the head, causing a severe laceration. Walker and his accomplice then fled the home and arriving police units found him lying in the street and bleeding severely from the large head wound. Walker remains hospitalized with his injury and the victim was treated and released for a non-life- threatening gunshot wound to the leg. Walker faces Robbery, Burglary, Aggravated Assault, Conspiracy and weapons violation charges.

Reed said anyone with information about any of the cases, or who knows the identity of the second missing home invader, are asked to call city police at 255.3131.
