BANK ROBBERY SUSPECT SOUGHT

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today said city police are searching for a suspect in an early morning robbery of the Belco Community Credit Union branch office in Harrisburg Hospital. No one was injured and the robber fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Reed said the robber entered the branch office just after 7 a.m. this morning and displayed a handgun to the teller. He gave her a black plastic bag and told her to fill it with cash. The teller complied and the suspect ran out of the building in an unknown direction without saying anything else. The teller was uninjured and no shots were fired.

The Mayor said witnesses describe the robber as a thinly-built African American male, between 5’7” and 5’9” tall, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants. The suspect had the hood tightly tied around his face, leaving only his mouth visible to the teller. Videotape of the suspect from the bank’s and hospital’s video cameras proved unusable for identification purposes.

The Mayor said the handgun used in the robbery was a silver-colored revolver that the suspect held in his left hand, making it a possibility the robber is left-handed.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call city police at (717) 255.3131.
