THE OFFICE OF MAYOR STEPHEN R. REED |
FOR IMMEDIATE USE |
DISTINCTIVE NEW “ARTS AT 510” ARTS & CULTURAL CENTER OPENS ON N. 3RD ST.Mayor Stephen R. Reed today cut the ribbon to dedicate the new “Arts at 510” Arts and Cultural Center at 510 N. 3rd Street, across from the State Capitol Complex. The new Center houses the former Camp Hill-based William Ris Gallery and offers an array of creative art available for retail sale, as well as arts and cultural events and activities. Reed said the new “Arts at 510” is owned and operated by noted midstate arts entrepreneurs Susan and Ray Schreckengaust, who have extensive experience in commercial arts facilities and galleries. The new “Arts at 510” will feature more art forms and artists, including oils, watercolors, jewelry, sculpture, crafts, clay and more. Occasional music and other cultural events will also be staged in the expansive, 1,000 sq. ft. space. An added feature of the new arts venue is the addition of the popular Custom Frame Shop, owned and operated by Betty and Irving Silverman, who were also formerly located in the Ris Gallery. Distinguished as elevating framing to an art form all its own, the Custom Frame Shop provides expert and distinctive framing services for any type of artistic creation in their new 1,000 sq. ft. workshop. The two stores together create 5 new part time jobs in the city, noted Reed. The Mayor said “Arts at 510” will feature a wide array of work in all genres by local, national and international artists, craftspersons, sculptors and artisans. Nationally-known artist Joseph Keiffer, of the distinguished Hudson River School, is the featured Grand Opening artist, and is joined by popular midstate photographers Carl Socolow’s and Thomas Reider’s pictorial essay of The Capitol, a tribute to the Capitol Centennial Celebration now underway. “We are delighted to welcome the Schreckengausts and the Silvermans, and their distinctive new arts and cultural attraction to downtown,” said Mayor Reed. “They have evolved the traditional arts gallery concept into an arts center that serves as a point of destination in and of itself. Strategically located near the Capitol Complex and in the heart of our growing arts and cultural district, the “Arts at 510” is a unique and exciting new facility that further adds to our retail, arts, cultural and special events offerings.” Reed said “Arts at 510” is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. They can be contacted at (717) 724.0364, or via the Internet at www.artsat510.com. |
