CITY ASSAULT, ROBBERY & BURGLARY SUSPECTS ROUNDED UP

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced the arrests of eleven suspects wanted in connection with a number of separate city assaults, robberies and burglaries.

- Antonio L. Brown, age 35, of the 1600 block of Derry Street, has been charged with one count each of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Attempt Homicide, and Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury for his actions during a June 2, 2006 assault on an Allison Hill man. The victim, a 37-year old resident of S. 17th Street, was attacked by Brown with a machete following a fight between the two over Brown’s relationship with the victim’s daughter.

- James Wright, age 22, of the 1800 block of Holly Street, has been charged with multiple counts of Burglary, Robbery, Intimidation of Witnesses and Conspiracy charges for his part in a July 6, 2006 early morning home invasion in the 1400 block of S. 15th Street. Wright and an unidentified accomplice broke into the home of a former coworker, threatening his 23-year old wife and young child with injury or death if they didn’t give up money. The robbers fled with a small amount of cash, cellphone and jewelry. Wright waited until his former coworker left for work in the morning to enter the house, breaking down the door to do so. The victim and her child were not injured in the attack. Police continue looking for Wright’s accomplice in the robbery/burglary.

- Eric Harden, age 19, of the 500 block of Emerald Street, has been charged with two counts each of Robbery and Simple Assault for his July 26 assaults of two women trying to retrieve their stolen vehicle from him. Harden allegedly stole the car in Paxtang Borough on July 30 from a 36-year old Rutherford Rd. woman, who spotted the vehicle parked in the 700 block of S. 28th Street on July 26. The woman and her mother then entered the vehicle and were attempting to drive off in it when Harden began assaulting the two with his fists and a cellphone, causing a head laceration to the vehicle’s owner when he repeatedly struck her. He eventually ran off.

- Emilio Robles, age 50, of the 900 block of S. 16th Street, was charged with Burglary and other charges after he was found hiding inside a home under- going rehab work in the 1600 block of Sycamore Street on August 12. Robles had pipecutters and other instruments when he was spotted hiding underneath a basement stairwell. He was trying to steal the copper plumbing pipes when a neighbor noticed lights on in the supposedly unoccupied house. Responding officers searched the house and found him hiding in the basement.

- Three city juveniles, one 16 years of age from S.16th Street, another one aged 14, of S. 14th Street, and a third, aged 13, of Crescent Street, attempted to rob a 46-year old Naudain Street man at gunpoint on August 11 near S. 14th and Kittatinny Streets around 1:30 p.m. The three juveniles pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded money. The victim fled inside a house and called police, who caught the trio a short time later near the 1300 block of S. 13th Street. All three juveniles now face Robbery and related charges.

- Darryl Richardson, age 41, of Yonkers, New York, was charged with Sexual Assault for his August 13 attack on a 20-year old Berryhill Street woman. Richardson, who was staying in the 2400 block of Berryhill Street, forced his way into the woman’s home around 3 a.m. and made her perform a sex act upon him. He was caught by police later that evening without further incident.

- A 14-year old juvenile was arrested Monday night and charged with Burglary, Simple Assault and Trespassing after city park rangers, on routine patrol, found that the city swimming pool complex in Hall Manor had been broken into; rangers detained the suspect, who tried to punch the rangers; 2 other juveniles involved in the same break-in are being sought.

- Terrell Slaughter, age 18, of the 1200 block of Market Street, was arrested on Robbery, Trespassing, Firearms and Conspiracy charges following his gunpoint robbery of an Allison Hill man early this morning near 13th and Derry Streets. Slaughter may also be a suspect in two other Allison Hill robberies that occurred overnight. A 37-year old Kittatinny Street man was robbed and pistol whipped by 3 black males, all wearing white t-shirts and blue jeans around 8:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Kittatinny Street; and, in a separate incident, a 57-year old resident of the 3900 Walnut Street was robbed by 2 black males in the 1300 block of Derry Street around 4:20 a.m. this morning. In both instances the robbers got small amounts of cash and other personal belongings. The assailants in all of the incidents were described as black or Hispanic males in their late teens, early 20’s, wearing white t-shirts and blue jeans, and all between 5”10” and 6’ ft. tall. None of the victims required hospitalization.

- The above suspects may also have been involved in the robbery of a 19-year old Emerald Street man early this morning. The victim was accosted by 2 black males, one light-skinned and the other dark-skinned, and both about 5’10” tall, near Green and Emerald Streets around 12:30 a.m. One of the suspects had a small mustache. Both were believed to have been from Allison Hill based on certain slang used during the robbery, and allegedly escaped the area in a late model black or dark green Nissan or Mazda. One was wearing a white ballcap and the other a blue and white ballcap. The suspects ran up behind the victim and demanded his cash. The victim initially fought back, but was soon overpowered as they beat him about the head with their handgun. The victim did not require hospitalization.

- Corey L. Johnson, age 18, of the 2200 block of Green Street, was arrested shortly after 7 p.m. last night near Green and Emerald Streets and charged with firearms violations and Receiving Stolen Property after a witness saw him drop a loaded handgun as he was exiting a corner store. The weapon was determined to have been stolen in a burglary incident in May.

- Police are looking for a 16-year old Peffer Street youth who went to another youth’s home in the 500 block of Peffer Street and threatened the 16-year old occupant with a handgun around 3:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon. The juvenile suspect threatened to shoot the victim over a relationship the victim had with a female relative of the assailant.

Mayor Reed said anyone with information on the cases is urged to call city police at (717) 255.3131, or the Spanish language tipline at (717) 255.3102.
