RAPE, ROBBERY & SHOOTING SUSPECTS SOUGHT IN SEPARATE INCIDENTS; 2 ARRESTED FOR FIGHTING WITH POLICE; FRONT ST. FIRE CAUSED BY OVERLOADED ELECTRIC POWER STRIPMayor Stephen R. Reed today said city police are searching for multiple suspects in connection with a late Monday night shooting and two robberies and a rape that occurred overnight in the city. Two suspects have also been charged with fighting with police in a separate incident, and city fire officials have determined the cause of a late afternoon Front Street fire to be electrical in nature. Reed said police are currently looking for suspects in a Monday night shooting that left the victim in critical condition, and two separate robberies and a rape that occurred yesterday and early this morning: - 20-year old Sean Grimes, a U.S. Marine home on leave from Iraq, became involved in an altercation with an unidentified Hispanic man around 10:30 Monday night in the 1200 block of Mulberry Street. The assailant pushed Grimes against a wall during the argument, and Grimes advised the man he was a Marine and didn’t want to hurt him. Grimes pushed the assailant to the ground and left the scene. A short time later Grimes and his associates returned to the area. The victim exited his vehicle and walked around the corner when a shot was heard. He then returned to the vehicle, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim’s friends drove him to the hospital, where police were summoned. Grimes remains in serious condition and has been unable to speak with police. - At 10 a.m. yesterday a Carlisle man and woman said they were robbed of a small amount of cash in Hall Manor by two Hispanic or black males in their 30’s. The Carlisle couple, both in their 50’s were allegedly in Hall Manor to pay a woman for a car they had purchased from her when they were accosted by the two assailants. One of the suspects grabbed an envelope from the woman’s hands and struck her in the face. Both fled into the woods behind Hall Manor. The victim did not require medical treatment. - A Mechanicsburg couple leaving a bar in the 300 block of Forster Street around 3 a.m. this morning were accosted by 5 young black males. The couple were arguing about who was going to drive home when the 5 men interceded, believing the woman needed assistance. When the male victim told them to leave, the suspects grabbed the woman’s purse, hit the man on the head and fled the area. The suspects are only described as five black males, ages 17-19. The muggers escaped with credit cards and a cellphone. The male victim did not require medical treatment for his injuries. - City police are searching for a rape suspect identified as Tony “Ton” Harris, who sexually assaulted an 18-year old Sylvan Terrace woman around 3 a.m. this morning. Harris was allegedly visiting another male resident of the household and went into the sleeping victim’s bedroom and assaulted her. Police learned of the incident when they were summoned to Hbg. Hospital around 6 a.m. this morning, where the victim had gone for treatment. Harris, with no known address, is described as a black or Hispanic male, in his early 20’s, stocky build and about 5’9”tall. He has braided hair and a bald spot, and was allegedly dating a woman in another apartment in the building. - Police yesterday charged 19-year old James Slaughter and a 14-year old juvenile with single counts each of Obstructing Justice and Resisting Arrest following a 2 p.m. incident in the 1200 block of Market Street. Officers investigating a series of overnight robberies were attempting to execute a search warrant for the property when Slaughter and the juvenile first tried to block their entry, and then fought with officers as they tried to move them. Slaughter’s 18-year old brother Terrell was arrested by police yesterday morning for his involvement in one of the earlier robberies. Reed said city fire officials have determined the cause of a late afternoon fire in the 300 block of S. Front Street to have been electrical in origin, stemming from an overloaded power strip in a first floor-rear room. The 4:45 p.m. blaze, which closed Front Street at Paxton Street and caused extensive evening commuter delays, caused an estimated $40,000 in fire, smoke and water damage to the 4-unit apartment building at 313 S. Front Street. Five persons have been left temporarily homeless. One person and three pets were rescued by firefighters from a third floor apartment. There were no working smoke detectors in the building. |
