CHASE LEADS TO ARREST ON MULTIPLE CHARGESMayor Stephen R. Reed today reported that city police have arrested Emoc Lopez, age 29, of the 2600 block of Lexington Street, on multiple charges after he led police on a chase in Allison Hill starting at 1:09 a.m. this morning. Police initially received a shots fired call in the 1600 block of Zarker Street and upon arrival found that the suspect had crashed his minivan into a fence and was pulling away as they came on-scene. The driver refused to stop, driving away at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, running stops, going the wrong way down one-way streets, driving on the sidewalks and operating without headlights on. He also struck at least one parked vehicle during his flight. His vehicle developed a flat tire after he drove up on sidewalks and struck steps, but he kept going until it stopped on North 18th Street. Emoc had to be removed from the vehicle by force, having refused to get out. He was belligerent from then to when placed into Dauphin County prison after being processed. Lopez was charged with 23 different counts in connection with the incident, including DUI, Simple Assault, Driving On A Suspended License, Recklessly Endangering, Careless Driving, Causing An Accident, numerous traffic citations and other charges. He was also arrested on 2 capias warrants related to earlier, unrelated charges of sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault of a child, corruption of minors, and involuntary deviate sex by force. No firearm was found and it could not be verified that any shots were actually fired. |
