THE OFFICE OF MAYOR STEPHEN R. REED |
FOR IMMEDIATE USE |
P & R BAKED GOODS & DESSERTS SWEETENS UP BROAD STREET MARKETMayor Stephen R. Reed today conducted the ribbon cutting for the delectable new P & R Baked Goods and Desserts at the historic Broad Street Market in Midtown. The distinctive new culinary attraction features homemade cakes, pies, breads and other confectionary and baked goods. Reed said P & R Baked Goods & Desserts is owned and operated by Edward and Nora Proctor, who have operated their business out of their home for the past thirteen years. Ed was trained as a cook during his U.S. Army service and for many years worked as a cook at the former Penn Harris Hotel. The Proctors have provided specialty baking products to a large clientele for many years, and are now moving into the retail market with the opening of their first-ever stand. Plans are also in the works to mass market several of their products to grocery stores and other outlets. The Mayor said the new P & R Baked Goods and Desserts stand occupies nearly 200 sq. ft. of space in the Market’s Stone Building, and creates two new jobs. The Proctors invested more than $6,000 in private funds for equipment, licensing and other start-up costs. Reed said P & R Baked Goods and Desserts specializes in homemade cakes, pies, desserts, breads and other delectable treats. Feature items include a heavenly Banana Split Dessert, and their signature Sweet Potato Pie, which they hope to trademark and market throughout the region. All of their products are made with all natural ingredients. “P & R Baked Goods and Desserts have a long and well-earned reputation for baking delicious desserts and baked goods,” said Mayor Reed. “They have already established a loyal following of customers, which we expect will be dramatically expanded in the weeks and months to come here at the Broad Street Market.” The Mayor said P & R Baked Goods and Desserts will be open during most of the Broad Street Market’s normal operating hours, including Thursdays and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. They can also be reached at (717) 350.5327. |
