HARRISBURG RECEIVES TOP NATIONAL AWARD FOR FINANCIAL REPORTING – FOR 18TH CONSECUTIVE YEARMayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that the City of Harrisburg has again received the top national award for financial reporting and accounting for the 18th consecutive year. The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been conferred on the City by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The organization has independent panels of certified public accountants and others who review municipal financial reports to make the determination. Stephen Gauthier, spokesperson for the Association, said: “The Certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant achievement by a government and its management.” The impartial panel reviewing Harrisburg’s financial report said it met the “high standards” that demonstrate a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story. Reed said: “We have set and continue to adhere to the highest standards of financial management with Harrisburg’s financial affairs. In my view, this is the only way to conduct the public’s business.” The Mayor added: “We wish to make it clear to taxpayers and everyone else that this standard is in place in Harrisburg and all in the future should be held to the same.” When the city first received the award 18 years ago, it marked the first time in city history that Harrisburg had ever received the award. The Association is a non-profit professional association serving 16,000 government finance professionals in the U.S. and Canada, with offices in Chicago and Washington D.C. ### For Independent Verification, Contact Stephen Gautier at (312) 977.9700 GFOA – 203 N.
