Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced the appointment of Dr. Sybil N. Knight Burney as Assistant Superintendent of the Harrisburg City School District. A highly regarded educator, Dr. Knight most recently served as the principal of Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

CITY & ACORN TEAM-UP TO PROVIDE FREE TAX PREPARATION AND FILING SERVICES; RESIDENTS URGED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT PROGRAM

Mayor Stephen R. Reed and Harrisburg Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now(ACORN) local head organizer Ben Hanna today announced that ACORN will again be providing free tax preparation and filing services for midstate residents beginning January 30, at their new offices at 14 S. 13th Street.

NEW GRAYSTONE BANK BRANCH OPENS IN DOWNTOWN HARRISBURG

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today cut the ribbon to officially open the new Graystone Bank Harrisburg Office in the Veteran’s Building at 112 Market Street, in the heart of downtown’s Market Square. The new office serves as the headquarters for the newly-established full-service financial services firm.

VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE EFFORTS GET UNDERWAY; CITY RESIDENTS ENCOURAGED TO FILE FOR FEDERAL & STATE TAX CREDIT PROGRAMS

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that the Community Action Commission, in collaboration with the United Way of the Capital Region, PNC Bank and the Internal Revenue Service, is again offering free income tax preparation and filing assistance for citizens throughout the midstate as part of their annual “Money In Your Pocket” campaign. Over 1,100 midstate taxpayers used the free service in 2005 to receive over $1.4 million in tax refunds.
