CITY 2005 HOLIDAY PARADE WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Saying it was a smashing success, Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported that the 2005 Harrisburg Holiday Parade was, by far, the largest and longest ever held and that record attendance of over 42,000, by police calculations, lined downtown streets to watch more than 125 parade units, marching bands, floats, giant helium-filled balloons and other groups during the 2 hour, 15 minute event. Nearly 3,000 persons marched in the parade units.

FAVORITE HOLIDAY MEMORIES COME TO LIFE AT THE 2005 HARRISBURG HOLIDAY PARADE ON SAT. NOV. 19 AT 10 A.M. WHBG TV-20 TELETHON SET FOR FRI. NOV.18 FROM NOON TO 9 P.M. AT SCI-TECH HIGH

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today invited residents and visitors from throughout Central Pennsylvania to the City of Harrisburg’s 2005 Holiday Parade, set to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 19 in downtown Harrisburg. The event marks the start of the 2005 Thanksgiving-Hanukkah-Christmas-Kwanzaa- New Year Season in the Greater Harrisburg region. WHBG TV-20, the city’s television station will also be conducting its annual telethon to benefit the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank the day before the parade, Fri. Nov. 18, from Noon to 9 p.m. at Sci Tech High in downtown.

LIVE MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT LINE-UP FOR WHBG TV-20 FOOD BANK TELETHON SET; EVENT RUNS NOON TO 9 P.M. ON FRI. NOV. 18 AT SCI TECH HIGH

The City of Harrisburg’s 2nd Annual SouthCentral Pennsylvania Food Bank Telethon, airing live on the city’s WHBG TV-20, will feature nine different musical entertainment groups ranging from Gospel to Country, Mayor Stephen R. Reed announced today. The live telethon is this year being broadcast from the lobby of Sci Tech High School at 223 Market Street in the heart of downtown.

WIND & WOOD REUNION CONCERT SLATED FOR FORUM ON SATURDAY, NOV. 19 AT 7:30 P.M.; BENEFITS WOMEN’S CIRCLE MENTORING PROJECT

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that members of the popular musical group Wind and Wood and other performers will reunite for a special benefit concert at the Forum Building this coming Saturday, Nov. 19, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to the one time only Anne Billmyer Memorial Concert are $20 and benefit the Women’s Circle Mentoring Program. The band has not performed together since 1985, when lead singer Billmyer unexpectedly passed away.

INNOVATIVE NATIONAL CENTER FOR SCIENCE AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT ESTABLISHED AT HBG. UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Mayor Stephen R. Reed and Harrisburg University of Science and Technology President and CEO Mel Schiavelli today announced that the National Center for Science and Civic Engagement has been established at the University. The Center is intended to inspire, support and disseminate campus-based science education reform strategies that strengthen learning and build civic responsibility among students. The Center’s programs teach basic science and mathematics through a focus on some of the most important and complex civic issues facing society today. .
