HURRICANE RELIEF FUNDRAISERS SET IN HARRISBURG

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported fundraising efforts are being held to provide monies to the American Red Cross to assist in relief for the victims and communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina;

o Throughout all 3 days of the Kipona Festival in Riverfront Park and on City Island, there will be donation receptacles to collect cash, check or money order donations;

o The Hardware Bar will do a country music concert on Sunday from 6 to 8 pm in the first block of Pine Street, featuring Mustang Sally;

o The Harrisburg Young Professionals and the Downtown Improvement District have teamed-up with Molly Brannigan’s and the Pep Grill to do a free concert, where they will collect cash, check or money order donations, on Wednesday from 5 to 11 p.m. in the second block of Walnut Street; local band Wet Stone and 2U—a U2 tribute band—will perform and food will be available.

All funds will go specifically for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

Reed said persons interested in donating directly to the major charities working on Katrina relief are encouraged to contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-HELP-NOW(435-7669), or the Salvation Army at 1-800-SAL-ARMY(725-2769).
