M&T BANK PARTNERS WITH CITY FOR FOURTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR TO PRESENT NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATION L
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that M&T Bank will once again partner with the city in presenting the popular M&T Bank New Year’s Eve Celebration, set for Saturday, December 31, beginning at 9 p.m. in Market Square. This marks the fourth consecutive year that M&T Bank has partnered with the city to present the region’s largest and most popular New Year’s Eve Celebration, which features live entertainment, fireworks and children’s entertainment.

MAYOR INVITES CITIZEN INPUT FOR NEW CITY TOURISM PLAN AT PUBLIC SESSION SLATED FOR WED., OCT 5. AT 7 P.M. AT HILTON HOTEL
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that a public meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 5, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel and Towers, to seek citizen input and commentary on city tourism issues. The public session will be facilitated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which was selected earlier this year to develop a strategic long-term city tourism plan.

NIGERIAN SOCIETY DINNER TO RAISE FUNDS FOR PLANNED NIGERIAN COMMUNITY CULTURAL CENTER
Mayor Stephen R. Reed is slated to be the keynote speaker for The Nigerian Society of South Central Pennsylvania’s annual fundraising dinner, set for Saturday,October 1, at the Radisson Penn Harris Convention Center in Camp Hill. The dinner begins at 8:00 p.m. and proceeds will be used to help establish a Nigerian Community Cultural Center in Harrisburg.

GULF AREA HURRICANE-RELATED OPERATIONS CONTINUE IN HIGH- GEAR BY LOCAL PERSONNEL
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported on multiple operations being conducted by City of Harrisburg emergency personnel in the stricken states devastated by Hurricane Katrina. He said current operations are at the highest level, involving the most varied duties and largest number of personnel since the hurricane first struck and the levees broke in New Orleans, causing a second catastrophe in the city:

Mayor Stephen R. Reed today cut the ribbon to open the new Virtuous Creations Beauty Haven beauty salon at 1308 State Street in the city’s Allison Hill. The new beauty salon offers full hairstyling services as well as retail jewelry, women’s hats and personalized stemware.

CLEAN-UP DRIVE OF ILLEGALLY DUMPED DEBRIS CONTINUES
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today reported the arrest of a Lemoyne man on misdemeanor charges related to illegally dumping trash and debris in the City. It is the defendant’s second arrest on the same charge.

75 NEW HOMES TO BE BUILT IN MIDTOWN AS MARKETPLACE TOWNHOMES EXPAND
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today conducted the groundbreaking for the final phase of new owner-occupied home construction in the city’s MarketPlace Townhomes development. 75 new homes will be built over the next three years, joining 38 existing new homes constructed in the earlier first project phase in the area bounded by N. 6th, Reily, Calder and James Streets.

PA TASK FORCE ONE BEGINS WORK IN MISSISSIPPI
Mayor Stephen R. Reed tonight reported that Pennsylvania Task Force One has now begun full operations in the Hurricane Katrina-ravaged community of Biloxi, Mississippi. All task force members have been put to work. A major focus is on searching devastated areas for survivors and to effect their rescue.
