STATE TASK FORCE ON WAY TO DEVASTATED GULF AREA
Mayor Stephen R. Reed reported tonight that Pennsylvania Task Force One, the elite federally certified search, rescue and recovery team, departed Harrisburg at 5:25 p.m. today for intensive emergency operations in Hurricane Katrina devastated areas in Mississippi. The length of the deployment is unknown.

HARRISBURG to welcome its historic Pioneer Class, Harrisburg University of Science and Technology held its inaugural Opening Convocation today at the Sunoco Performance Theatre, Whitaker Center for the Science and Arts. NASA astronaut and keynote speaker, Bernard A. Harris, Jr., M.D. and Harrisburg Mayor Stephen R. Reed joined other dignitaries in welcoming the entering students and their families. ”.

2005 HARRISBURG HOLIDAY PARADE PLANNING UNDERWAY; ENTRIES NOW INVITED TO REGISTER
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today invited area bands, organizations, groups, businesses and individuals to register now for the upcoming Harrisburg Holiday Parade, slated for Saturday, November 19, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the downtown. The theme for this year’s Holiday Parade is “Favorite Holiday Memory”.

I4 ADULTS, 13 JUVENILES NOW ARRESTED IN SERIES OF CITY BURGLARIES
Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that city police have arrested 17 persons in connection with a series of burglaries that occurred in the city over the past 4 months. The suspects have been charged with more than 100 counts in connection with the spree.

WORK ON NEW CITY ISLAND ENTRANCE AREAS NOW UNDERWAY; NEW MARKET STREET BRIDGE UNDERPASS TO RESULT
The entrance areas to Harrisburg City Island from the Market Street Bridge will be undergoing a dramatic transformation that will ease traffic congestion, provide greater safety and convenience to pedestrians and motorists, and be more appealing to visitors, Mayor Stephen R. Reed announced today. Work is now underway for the new Market Street/City Island Underpass Reconstruction Project.

Harrisburg Young Professionals Announce Scholarships for Harrisburg University Students
To celebrate the incoming 2005 Pioneer Class at Harrisburg University, the Harrisburg Young Professionals today presented Harrisburg University (HU) with seven $500 scholarships. The scholarships will go toward providing laptop computers for Harrisburg Sci-Tech High School graduates who will attend the new four-year university. For each year after, HYP will award three $500 scholarships to incoming students from the City of Harrisburg through its scholarship foundation.
