INNER VISIONS AND DANNY DREAD FEATURED PERFORMERS FOR 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF HBG SUNSPLASH REGGAE FESTIVAL AT LEVITT PAVILIONMayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that the Harrisburg Sunsplash Reggae Festival, celebrating its 20th Anniversary, has been slated for Friday and Saturday, August 5 and 6, at the Levitt Pavilion in Reservoir Park. Featured performers for this year’s free milestone event include “Inner Visions” and “Danny Dread and The Dread Society”. Reed said the Harrisburg Sunsplash Reggae Festival began in 1985 at the bandshell in Reservoir Park, marking the first major concert event to be held in the park’s 1940’s era bandshell in many years. The Reggae Festival’s success that first year led to a summer long series of concerts in 1986, which has now grown to include such popular annual events as the African Family Festival, Latin Festival, Jazz Under The Stars, Shakespeare In The Park and many more. The Harrisburg Sunsplash Reggae Festival, now presented as a component of the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts Summer Concert Series, will this year feature international recording stars “Inner Visions”, whose members hail from St. John’s in the U.S. Virgin Islands. “InnerVisions” appears on “International Night”, Friday, Aug. 5, with the free show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Heavily influenced by Bob Marley, Third World, Steel Pulse, Aswad and many others, “Inner Visions” has played at venues across the U.S. and around the globe and consists of members Phillip “Grasshopper Pickering, Paul “Ras Paul” Samms, Alvin “Jupiter” Pickering, Akiba “Mr. Snooze” Pickering and Aswad “Hollywood” Pickering. Appearing Saturday night, August 6, at 7:30 p.m. for ‘U.S. Yard” night , is popular regional artists “Danny Dread and The Dread Society”. The Baltimore-based band recently issued its debut cd, entitled “Crucial World”, and consists of former “Uprising” vocalist Danny Dread, Ichelle Cole of “Stryker’s Posse” fame, as well as artists Chuck Patterson, Trinidad’s Tony Allum, and Lamont Jones. Mayor Reed reminded concertgoers that blankets and lawn chairs are welcomed at the newly restored bandshell area, which under the direction of the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts is featuring free live musical, dance, and theatrical performances each Thursday through Saturday night all summer long.
