CITY ARRESTS 10 IN SERIES OF BURGLARIES & SHOOTINGSMayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that city police have arrested 10 persons this far, with additional arrests expected, in a series of unrelated burglaries and shootings. The Midtown and Uptown areas, including the Riverside Neighborhood south and north of Division Street, has recently experienced a spate of home burglaries, some being committed while the residents were actually at home at the time. Six persons, including three juveniles, have been charged in connection with these crimes. A burglary ring of as many as 11 persons may be involved, with the youngest reported as being 11 years old. Charged with multiple burglary and conspiracy charges are Jerome Elaise McCowin, 18, of 1931 N. 4th Street, Michael Anthnoy Hull, 19, of 2153 Penn Street, Gregory L. White, 19 of 7 Kennedy Lane, Steelton, and three juveniles who all lived in the Uptown area. They are all believed to have been involved in numerous burglaries and the investigation remains on-going. In a separate probe of a May 30, 2005 robbery, two persons have now been charged with robbery and conspiracy in connection with robbing a man in the 2200 block of Jefferson Street. Charged are Dante McCollum-Jackson, 18, of 625 Forrest Street, and Quinndale L. Burnett, 18, of 526 Schuylkill Street. A third robber, identified as Karl Segar and who is presently in a state prison, will be arrested for the same charges for his alleged involvement in this robbery on July 26. In an unrelated incident occurring May 3rd, a man was shot in the chest at 342 Crescent Street during a round of “Russian Roulette.” The victim survived but was critically injured. Reed said the city has now arrested Jamar Carter, 20, of 1431 Vernon Street, on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, tampering with evidence, flight to avoid prosecution, delivery and possession of drugs, and other charges. The firearm has been recovered. In yet another unrelated incident, the city has arrested Jose Antonio Noble, 26, of 33 South Summit Street, on charges of Aggravated Assault and Carrying a Firearm without a License, in connection with the April 23rd shooting of a man in the 200 block of Crescent Street. The suspect followed the man from a local bar and when the victim, seeing that he was being followed by the suspect and others, began to run, the suspect began shooting at him. One other suspect is being sought. |
