CITY TRICK OR TREAT NIGHT SET FOR THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28, FROM 6:00 P.M. TO 8:00 P.M.

Harrisburg, PA—Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that Trick or Treat Night in Harrisburg and most of Dauphin County’s other communities will be held on Thursday, October 28, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The date and time for the fun-filled evening is annually set by the Dauphin County Chiefs of Police.

Mayor Reed said Trick or Treat Night can be one of the most enjoyable experiences of the year for children if parents or responsible adults follow some basic guidelines to help ensure their safety. The Mayor encouraged parents or adults to accompany their children during their trick or treating, and to dress them in brightly visible colors or outfits that can be easily seen at night. Trick or Treaters should exercise caution while on streets and highways, and always look both ways before crossing busy streets and intersections.

The Mayor also encouraged parents to carefully examine all of the candy items that their children may bring home and make sure none appear opened or tampered with. “While incidents of tampering are very rare, they can and do occur,” said Mayor Reed. “Parents can prevent harm to their children from such acts by simply examining the candies they bring home. If the package is opened or torn it should be discarded, and even if the packaging was secure, each of the candies should also be examined once it is out of the wrapper to ensure that no foreign objects have been inserted into them.”

Under no circumstances, said the Mayor, should children eat any of the candy they receive before they return home and parents or guardians have a chance to examine the items they’ve been given.
