DELOITTE ANNOUNCES NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE IN CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEKHarrisburg, PA—Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced that the internationally recognized Deloitte and Touche USA LLP, will conduct a volunteer clean-up campaign in Harrisburg’s parks on Friday October 8, 2004. The event is part of the firm’s national IMPACT Day, which will realize nearly 240,000 hours of volunteer service by the firm’s 30,000 employees worldwide. “We believe a national day of service will have a long lasting effect on our culture of community involvement,” said Deloitte CEO James H. Quigley. “It underscores our belief that community involvement is a business imperative. We place the highest value on our people’s time, knowledge and business skills, and feel we have a duty and privilege to contribute to non-profit organizations working to address social issues.” Mayor Reed lauded the efforts of Deloitte and Touche, noting that they have “set a standard of professional conduct and charitable involvement.” Reed said the amount of time being donated by Deloitte and Touche nationally amounts to more than $4 million worth of time. Reed noted that more than sixty local employees of Deloitte Touche will participate in the clean-up drive, providing clean-up, painting and other services in Reservoir and Riverfront Park, City Island and various city playground sites. “Volunteerism is a year round activity at Deloitte,” said Anne Rouse Sudduth, Deloitte’s national director of community involvement. “Our people are very engaged in community service so IMPACT Day is an exciting celebration of Deloitte’s culture of service.” To prepare for IMPACT Day, several hundred people are serving on planning teams across the country, organizing the specific volunteer events that will take place on October 8. Volunteer opportunities are expected to include clean-up and refurbishment projects, working with schools and feeding the hungry, among others. In addition to the volunteer events being held across the United States, Deloitte professionals in several cities around the world will also spend IMPACT Day serving their communities.
