NEW BECKER’S FISH & CHIPS EATERY ADDS TO DOWNTOWN DINING CHOICESHarrisburg, PA – Mayor Stephen R. Reed today cut the ribbon on another downtown restaurant, Becker’s Fish and Chips, at 104 N. Second Street in the heart of downtown. The conveniently located new eatery features fresh fish sandwiches and light American fare, and is open seven days a week. Reed said the new restaurant is owned and operated by noted midstate entrepreneur Joseph Becker, and his three sons Allen, Brent and Evan. Becker grew up in a sandwich shop and later owned his own pizzeria in Lancaster before opening his first Becker’s Fish stand at the West Shore Farmer’s Market. The new downtown Harrisburg location joins an existing eatery based at the Harrisburg Mall. The Mayor said Becker’s Fish and Chips was financed by the Community First Fund and the City of Harrisburg, and renovations totaling over $30,000 were made to the former corner grocery store site. The new 700 sq. ft. restaurant employs six and provides seating for 40 patrons, and also offers take-out services. The fish products sold in the store arrive daily from suppliers. “Becker’s Fish and Chips is a delectable new addition to the downtown dining diaspora,” said the Mayor, “and judging by the public’s initial response, with patrons lined up on the street waiting to get in, we think he will do very well. We welcome and applaud Joe Becker for his substantive commitment to downtown, extend our best wishes for success to both he and his teenage sons.” Reed said Becker’s Fish and Chips will also offer convenient daily and weekend hours. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to Midnight, and 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sundays.
