LAWSON HOTEL CONTENTS & SALVAGE RIGHTS TO BE AUCTIONED ON MONDAY, SEPT. 30, 2002

Harrisburg, PA—The contents and salvage rights to the Lawson Hotel at 1602 N. 7th Street will be auctioned off on Monday, September 30, 2002, Mayor Stephen R. Reed today announced. The auction and salvaging work are part of the city’s Gateway North Project, which involves the widening of N. 7th Street between Reily and Maclay Streets to alleviate commuter congestion along the heavily traveled N. Second and N. Front Streets commuter routes. The Hotel had been closed for some time before the Gateway Project proceeded.

Reed said the Auction will feature the entire contents of the property, including bedroom furniture, chairs, night tables, bar and kitchen equipment, barstools, tables, booths, chairs, beverage coolers, plates, glassware and utensils. Salvage rights to the building’s internal fixtures and amenities will also be on the bidding block.

Interested bidders may begin inspecting auction items at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, with the sale set to begin at 5:00 p.m. Buyers will be required to provide their own transportation and labor for any items they may purchase.

The Mayor said the site’s clearance is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to widen the mile-long stretch of the road to four lanes, allowing Capitol Complex and other commuter traffic to access and exit the downtown area, instead of using the heavily populated residential areas along N. Second Street.

When completed and in conjunction with the Gateway South Project that will extend N. Third Street onto Paxton Street, Mayor Reed said the City will pursue the return of N. Second Street to two-way vehicular traffic, significantly reducing speeds and enhancing neighborhood stability.
