HARRISBURG ON THE MAP
The U.S. Region
The Regional map shows Pennsylvania in relation to its neighboring states. New York and the Great Lake Erie are due north of Pennsylvania. To the east are New Jersey and Delaware. South of Pennsylvania are Maryland and West Virginia. Neighboring on the west are portions of West Virginia and Ohio.
The Metropolitan Area
The Metropoliton Map shows Harrisburg’s neighboring townships and parts of Perry, Cumberland, York, and Dauphin counties. Harrisburg lies on the eastern bank of the Suquenhanna River. Harrisburg’s prominent, historical location on the Susquehanna River can also be noted on the map. Interstate 83 crosses the Susquehanna River on the southern edge of the City and to the north Interstate 81 again crosses the river. Harrisburg lies in Dauphin County and the eastern bank of the river provides a natural boundry for Dauphin. Cumberland, York and Perry counties all lie on the western bank of the Susquehanna River. Notable on the map is the Harrisburg International Airport to the south.
The City
The City map provides excellent details of the major routes and river crossings of the City. The city limits extend over the Susquehanna River to include some of the numerous islands, including “City Island”, a recreational destination that is also the home of the Harrisburg Senators baseball team. The map also provides a general idea of the location of many prominent features of the City, including hospitals, government buildings and parks.
