The Special Events Office produces a wide variety of family friendly free festival, concerts, parades and celebrations throughout the year in addition to assisting the Recreation Bureau with many recreation programs. Festivals and concerts are staged in the City Park System with parades and other celebrations taking place on City streets downtown.
The City of Harrisburg continues to be Central Pennsylvania's leader in the production of quality special events that attract over two million residents, visitors and tourists annually.
This is accomplished by producing annual favorites such as Armed Forces Day, Harrisburg Jazz and Multi-Cultural Festival Hosted by Mayor Linda D. Thompson, Kipona Festival, the Harrisburg Holiday Parade (which is also televised), the Harrisburg New Year's Eve Celebration, the Italian Lake Concert Series and Levitt Live Entertainment Series. In addition, the City works closely with local non-profit arts and cultural organizations to stage events such as the Greater Harrisburg Arts Festival, African Family Festival, the Harrisburg Shakespeare Festival to name only a few.

The City of Harrisburg, Department of Parks, Recreation & Enrichment, Special Events Office is committed to ensuring the long-term success of diverse and appealing events and recreational opportunities for the benefit of all.
As the City growth trend continues, we will continue to raise the bar for event quality and diversity by employing creative marketing and presentation strategies. Harrisburgs award winning events will continue in the rich tradition that has been established to serve the entertainment and recreational needs of visitors, tourists and, most importantly, Harrisburgs citizens!
