Inspections by the Bureau of Codes
The Codes Bureau performs various inspections.

Construction
We perform a series of progressive inspections during a construction project. This allows us to see the work in progress, letting us to be able to certify that the work is being done to code. We ask that you allow at least 24 hours notice time to us that you need an inspection. We will work with you to the best of our ability to keep your project moving to completion. Dwelling Units
Selling a House – Buyers Notification Inspection
When a house is being sold, City law requires the Codes Bureau to inspect for minimal life safety codes issues. A house may not be sold within the City without such an inspection being done. To obtain the form to request the inspection, click here to download the application.

This is not a thorough inspection that you will receive with a private home inspection agency, we only look at basic systems. If you desire a complete inspection, we suggest you hire a private firm.

Rental Inspection
Whether it is a house, apartment or room, if you rent a place for someone to use as a residence, you are required to have the unit inspected. To request a rental inspection, click here to download the application.

• Apartments and Houses
  These rental units are required to have an inspection every three years. It is helpful to you and us to schedule an appointment with us in advance of the current inspection’s termination. We will follow-up with you if you do not schedule an appointment, but we would rather have it done at both our conveniences.
  
• Rooming House
  The forms for 2009 were due to the City by December 31, 2008. If we did not receive your form, you will be shut down, and you will pay a penalty fee of $25.00.
