The City of Harrisburg’s Bureau of Codes focuses upon enforcing building, property maintenance and health codes to ensure safe living and working conditions for residents and businesses. Code Enforcement Officers inspect buildings for residential and non-residential use and investigate complaints, and work with property owners to address issues and concerns. The Codes Administrator and Assistant Codes Administrator review and inspect both residential and non-residential uses for compliance with codes. The Health Officer inspects restaurants and other food services to ensure safe and healthy conditions in work and service. The Codes bureau also advises other City agencies and officials on code requirements and floodplain standards.While our name suggests we are about regulations – and we are – more importantly we are here to HELP you with your project. The Codes Bureau administers three separate boards: the Housing Code Board of Appeals, Electrical Board and Plumbing Board. These boards have scheduled meetings but will only meet if there is an appeal of staff action. If there is a meeting, an agenda will be posted.
