Online services are limited to information and application forms. The Bureau of Human Resources lists information on currently open positions. However, the Bureau also provides this information to a number of other Internet recruitment services.

It's the policy of the City of Harrisburg to keep all applications for employment active for six (6) months. In order to keep an application active for an additional six (6) months, the applicant must renew it by contacting the Bureau of Human Resources before expiration of the initial six (6) month period. After an application has expired, an applicant must file a new application with the Bureau of Human Resources.

If you wish to apply for a position not currently open you will need the following document as a reference. Use the five (5) digit Job Code and corresponding Job Title for each position you are interested in Section 1 of the Application.
- All applicants are required to complete an Official Application Form.
- The City performs employment and education reference checks, driving, criminal and credit (where applicable) reviews, and pre-employment controlled substances tests on all candidates selected for employment.
- Residency requirements exist for all new full-time management, bargaining unit, police and fire employees. New management employees must establish residency within the corporate limits of the City within 12 months from the date of hire. Bargaining unit employees must establish residency within the corporate limits of the City within 12 months from the date of completing the probationary period. Police Officer and Firefighters must establish residency within the corporate limits of the City within 6 months from the date of completing the probationary period.
- Deadline: Applications will be accepted until position is filled. (This will stay this way unless otherwise stated)
