The City map provides excellent detail of the major routes and river crossings of the City. The city limits extend over the Susquehanna River to include some of the numerous islands, including City Island, a recreational destination that is also the home of the Harrisburg Senators baseball team. The map also provides a general idea of the location of many prominent features of the City, including hospitals, government buildings and parks.

Designed by the renowned architect, Warren Manning, the former Harrisburg Bike Path is a 1,200 acre "emerald necklace" running through and around the City linking five neighboring municipalities. The Greenbelt serves as a critical link connecting the Citys Riverfront Park and City Island to the Cameron and Paxtang Parkways and Wildwood Lake.

The Metropolitan Map shows Harrisburgs neighboring townships and parts of Perry, Cumberland, York, and Dauphin counties. Harrisburg lies on the eastern bank of the Susquehanna River. Interstate 83 crosses the Susquehanna River on the southern edge of the City, and to the north, Interstate 81 crosses the river. Harrisburg lies in Dauphin County and the eastern bank of the river provides a natural boundary for Dauphin. Cumberland, York and Perry counties all lie on the western bank of the Susquehanna River. Notable on the map is the Harrisburg International Airport to the south.

The Municipal Historic Districts Map depicts the six municipal historic districts within the City of Harrisburg. Municipal historic districts are created in order to help maintain the integrity of historically significant areas of Harrisburg. Proposals for demolition, alterations, and new construction are subject to review by the Harrisburg Architectural Review Board and the Harrisburg City Council to insure that such proposals do not negatively impact the historic character of the districts.

The Flood Plain Map depicts the 100 year and 500 year flood plains within the City. Proposed development activities that are located within the 100 year flood plain must conform with the Citys flood plain regulations (Section 7-329 and 7-509 of Codified Ordinances) in order to reduce flood danger to life and properties.

The Regional map shows Pennsylvania in relation to its neighboring states. New York and the Great Lake Erie are due north of Pennsylvania. To the east are New Jersey and Delaware. South of Pennsylvania are Maryland and West Virginia. Neighboring on the west are portions of West Virginia and Ohio.

The Ward Map depicts the boundaries for the 15 Wards in the City of Harrisburg. Wards are used to identify and organize properties in the City and Dauphin County. The first two numerals of a property's tax parcel number is the ward number. For example, Tax Parcel 14999111 would be located in the the 14th Ward.

The Zoning District Map depicts the different zoning districts within the City. Every property within the City is zoned in order to regulate the location and intensity of different land uses. Proposals for new development must comply with the Citys Planning and Zoning Code found on our downloads page. (Section 7-300 of Codified Ordinances).
