The Importance of Census Data

• The census will help us gain financial resources to help improve the City of Harrisburg. Every year the federal government can allocate more than $300 billion to communities, cities and states based in part on the numbers that come from the census. Help us get our fair share by returning your census questionnaire.

• Census data guides local decision makers on where to build or improve roads, hospitals, child care and senior citizen centers, schools and much more.

• Census data determines how many seats each state will have in the United States House of Representatives.

It's in Our Hands The Census: A Snapshot

WHAT
The census is a count of everyone residing in the United States.

WHO
All U.S. residents must be counted - people of all races and ethnic groups, both citizens and non-citizens.

WHEN
Census Day is April 1, 2010.

WHY
The U.S. Constitution requires a national census once every 10 years.

HOW
Census questionnaires will be delivered or mailed to households via U.S. mail in March 2010.

REMEMBER your participation will help us get needed funds to improve the City of Harrisburg.

Beginning MAY 1, 2010, Census workers
will be visiting homes.
