Harrisburg, the Capital City of Pennsylvania, is accepting applications for the position of Demolition Specialist I. This position is responsible for performing demolition work, including backfilling the site area, in various locations throughout the City. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Demolition Crew Leader, the Director of Public Works or his/her designee. Work is performed throughout the City on buildings in various locations. Work involves the use of, but not limited to, shovels, hammers, saws, sledge hammers, tampers, portable mixers, jack hammers, chain saws, air compressors, snow blowers, power operated hand tools and motor vehicles such as pick ups, dump trucks, tractor trailers, back hoes, front end loaders, track hoes, tri-axles dump trucks, snow plows and bulldozers. Employees are subject to noise and vibration, fumes, odors, toxic conditions, dust, poor ventilation, and inclement weather. Work is occasionally performed in confined spaces. Safety equipment such as barricades, cones, hand held flags, etc. are used. Duties typically are performed weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., however, employee may work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Qualified applicants must have a High school diploma or equivalent. Six (6) months experience in the demolition area preferred. A valid Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License, Class A. Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Residency within the corporate limits of the City of Harrisburg is required within one (1) year from completion of probationary period.

We offer a competitive salary package ($33,562.85 which increases to $39,485.70 after six months) plus excellent fringe benefits.
