MANAGEMENT POSITION
POSITION: DIRECTOR OF BUILDING AND HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
LOCATION: OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR
Harrisburg, the capital City of Pennsylvania, is accepting applications for the position of Director of Building and Housing Development. This is a senior, cabinet-level position that serves as chief administrator of the Department of Building and Housing Development (DBHD). This position requires a high level of administrative and supervisory work including planning, directing and controlling the functions of the DBHD. This also includes overall responsibility for the Bureau of Planning, Bureau of Codes, and Bureau of Housing, neighborhood residential developments, and other federal, state or local grant programs. Additionally, the department staffs the Zoning Hearing Board, the Housing and Building Code Board of Appeals, Planning Commission, Historic Architectural Review Board, Vacant Property Reinvestment Board and numerous related boards and commissions. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Mayor. This is a management, FLSA-exempt position.
Qualified applicants must possess a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in planning, public administration, political science or related field, plus five years experience in community development, planning, economic development, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Masters degree and experience working in local government preferred. A minimum of four years experience in a supervisory capacity with progressive financial responsibilities is required. Valid Pennsylvania drivers license, class C, or equivalent is also required.
The salary range is negotiable depending on qualifications, plus excellent fringe benefits. The successful candidate must establish residency within the corporate limits of the City of Harrisburg within one year from date of hire.
